About Materials and Techniques

In my artistic practice, I explore the realms of abstract expressionism and action painting, focusing on dynamic forms, vibrant colors, and expressive textures. My work is non-figurative and non-representational, aiming to evoke deep emotional responses and invite viewers into a world of spontaneous creativity.

Driven by a background in psychology and international business, I find inspiration in the dynamics of human emotion and the expressive potential of abstract art. Action painting, with its emphasis on gestural brushwork and bold use of color, allows me to channel raw emotions and translate them onto canvas. It’s a process that not only energizes me creatively but also engages viewers on a personal and introspective level.

For my works, I prefer acrylic paint due to its versatility and ability to facilitate a variety of techniques. This medium suits my style perfectly, enabling me to execute dynamic, spontaneous brushstrokes that define my abstract expressionist approach.

I work primarily on canvas made of linen with a coarse texture, a surface I favor for its ability to enhance the tactile quality of my paintings. Often leaving large areas unpainted, I utilize the rough texture to complement bold, dynamic strokes that characterize my artistic expression.

My artworks are enriched by a variety of materials and techniques. From modelling pastes to sand, plaster, and even natural elements like wood and twigs, each material adds depth and texture, contributing to the spontaneous and energetic nature of my compositions.

In the creative process, I employ a range of tools including large brushes, palette knives, and sometimes my own hands. Palette knives are particularly instrumental, allowing me to apply paint dynamically and create textured layers that reveal underlying colors—a technique central to my expressive style.

My color palette has evolved from soft earth tones to vibrant blues and intense hues, reflecting my exploration of emotional depth and energy. These colors not only create visual contrasts but also evoke strong emotional responses, inviting viewers to engage with the expressive narratives within each piece.

Techniques such as dripping, scraping, impasto, and occasional collage play a crucial role in my artistic expression. They add complexity and richness to my artworks, embodying the spontaneity and vigor inherent in abstract expressionism and action painting.

Through my artworks, I aim to create visceral and expressive experiences that resonate with viewers on an emotional and intuitive level. Each piece is a journey of exploration, inviting viewers to contemplate the interplay of form, color, texture, and emotion—an invitation to discover new perspectives and narratives within abstract art.
