You’ve planned an exhibition in a gallery in Ostend. Why Ostend, and what can you tell us about the paintings that have gone into that exhibition?
Why Ostend?
Christel has chosen Ostend for her upcoming exhibition, a decision deeply rooted in personal history and cultural significance. “This year marks the James Ensor Year, celebrating the legacy of the famous artist who lived and passed away in Ostend 75 years ago,” Christel explains. “The city is vibrant with cultural activities honouring his memory, making it an inspiring place for an exhibition.”
Christel’s connection to Ostend goes beyond this commemoration. “When I was little, my family spent vacations at the Belgian coast,” she reminisces. “While my mother was sunbathing, my father liked to take my sister and me to various places. One memorable visit was to the house where James Ensor lived. As a small kid, I was profoundly impressed by the masks in that house, which were a significant inspiration for Ensor’s work. Having an exposition in Ostend this summer seemed like perfect timing.”
About the Paintings
The exhibition will showcase a blend of Christel’s older works and her newer creations. “The works I’ve selected represent a journey through my artistic evolution,” she shares. “My newer pieces are characterized by more expressive colors, reflecting my growth and experimentation as an artist.”
This collection promises to offer a captivating contrast between Christel’s earlier and current styles, inviting viewers to explore the progression of her artistic expression.
